Shantila Lee is a New York-based journalist with nearly 12 years experience in writing and editing at ELLE and Marie Claire Malaysia and StyleCaster, an edge in web skills, and a master’s in journalism from NYU. Deep understanding of trend forecasting, e-commerce engagement, cross-platform strategy, and global fashion and beauty markets. A collaborative leader who is innovative, thorough, and devoted to creating top-notch content.
Shantila is a research-everything and lives-and-breathes what she writes kind of journalist. Her writing is never fluff, and every morsel of writing wisdom she absorbed from her professors at NYU is ingrained within; like ways to write strong ledes, paying extra attention to kicker grafs, and that New York is a one-party consent state.
She diligently (read: obsessively) keeps up with everything fashion, beauty and lifestyle (cellphones, baking utensils, you name it). Shantila fuels her writing with many years of learning, from poring over products with brand founders to regular chats with hairstylists and makeup artists she has formed close bonds with through her work. More days than not, you'll find her in an oversized sweater and skinny jeans, wielding her Pencil stylus and iPad Mini, scribbling away bits of science or data she's come across for future reference. The latest was a table called Hair Matrices - four facets of hair, their descriptors, and how this translates to picking the right products. That's the semi-neurotic side of her, finding immense satisfaction in collating her thoughts before picking products.
Yet on the other end, she also indulges in (over) analyzing sci-fi movies and complicated plot lines, has a knack for writing personal essays that can make a grown man weep, and aims to master the art of writing profiles that explore the depths of the subject's soul. Shantila moonlights as an interior designer for her friends, known for her good taste and fascination with design and decor, and is a mad home baker, infatuated with the science behind the rise and all aspect of what makes a good cake pan.
Shantila is now seeking a full time job.
